How Well Does my AI Know Me?

Welcome to the Survey How Well Does my AI Know Me?

Thank you for taking part in this study!

This study is a project by Rebecca Bücker (Master’s thesis) and Tandem Prof. Dr. Tobias M. Härtel (scientific research) at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. Rebecca Bücker will analyze the results for her master’s thesis in the degree program Leadership and Organization (M.A.). Tobias Härtel will use the data for scientific publications in anonymized and aggregated form.

What is this study about?
Modern AI chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude) increasingly store records of past conversations. The aim of this study is to investigate how accurately AI systems can form personality-related assessments based on such chat histories.

Who can participate in the survey?
All individuals who are at least 18 years old and actively use an AI chatbot (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok, or similar) can participate! A prerequisite is that the chatbot has access to previous conversations. You will be guided throughout the study on how to easily check whether the storage or memory function is activated and, if necessary, enable it afterwards.

Participation is possible on both a laptop/PC and a smartphone. However, we recommend completing it on a laptop/PC.

Key information:
Duration: approx. 15-20 minutes

Voluntary participation:
Participation is voluntary. You may withdraw from the study at any time without providing reasons and without any negative consequences.

VP credits – University of Münster: This research project is conducted in collaboration with researchers from the University of Münster. Students of the University of Münster can receive 0.5 VP credits for their participation. For this purpose, we optionally collect your name and email address at the end of this survey (via a separate survey that is not linked to the main questionnaire). Your name and email address will be shared with our cooperation partner at the University of Münster. The VP credits will be sent to you by email after the study has been completed. There will be no link between your name, email address, and your other research data. Your name and email address will be deleted after the VP credits have been issued.

Anonymity & data protection:
Your responses are collected anonymously and will be analyzed exclusively in anonymized and aggregated form. It is not possible to draw conclusions about your identity. The data will be stored securely for at least 10 years.
In the context of follow-up scientific studies, anonymized chatbot summaries may serve as the basis for perceptual judgments and be evaluated by independent human raters or AI-based systems (e.g., large language models).

Legal basis:
Data processing is carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. You have the right to access (Art. 15), object (Art. 21), data portability (Art. 20), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), and rectification (Art. 16 GDPR).
